What happens when switching phones

When you switch to a new phone, your notes in Echo do not automatically transfer with your device.

Whether your notes appear on your new phone depends on how they were saved.

If you were signed in

If you were signed into an Echo account on your old phone:

  • Your notes are safe and linked to your account

  • They will easily be available on your new phone

To access them:

  • Download Echo on your new phone

  • Sign in using the same method and account (Apple, Google, or Microsoft)

Once signed in, your notes will appear automatically.

If you were not signed in

If you used Echo without being signed in, your notes were stored in an anonymous account on that device.

To transfer your notes to your new phone, you must first:

  • Go to Echo → Settings

  • Create a new account

  • This will link your notes to that account

Once done, you can sign in to that same account on your new phone.

Important: before switching phones

If you still have access to your old phone and your notes are visible:

  • Make sure you remember your sign-in method and credentials

  • Sign in to the same account on your new device

What can go wrong

You may lose access to your notes if:

  • You switch phones without creating an account first

  • You sign in with a different method than the one originally used

  • You log in to an already existing account on your old phone, where the notes are created

    👉 Important:
If your notes were created while not signed in (anonymous account), logging into an existing account on that device will switch the app to that account and your notes will no longer be visible or recoverable. To safely store those recordings, make sure to create a new account instead.

Best practices

To avoid losing notes when switching phones:

  • Always create an account before switching devices or make sure that you already have an account

  • Always stay signed in when using Echo

  • Use the same sign-in method consistently
